The things we liked/loathed/didn’t understand from the last two weeks, in no particular order:
1. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine…because former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has a Tumblr. — Traci Heston, Guest Writer
2. The purest, most sublime definition of the word.
This, my friends, is bromance. I love you bro. — Matt Brown, Columnist
3. I’m fairly sure you had to do something horrible in a former life to come back as a Yankees fan, but this guy is creating some good karma with his Journey-tastic tribute to fallen closer Mariano Rivera. — Laura Myers, Editor
4. Here’s the best article I’ve seen on the deaths of Donna Summer and Robin Gibbs. It’s refreshing to see a perspective beyond the normal “disco sucks” mindset. — Nick Anderson, Columnist
5. Here’s the launch of Dragon. It’s a private space craft headed for the International Space Station. The video is 15 minutes long, but the exciting part is the lift off at 2:00. Private space craft open of a world of possibility for all super villains, eccentric rich folk, and young dreamers everywhere. — Nick Anderson, Columnist
6. Eight high school seniors in California take advantage
of their close proximity in the yearbook
7. The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby adaption is finally out and … hot damn. Bow ties, pixie cuts, and general dapperness abounds, all over a sexed-out backdrop of sequins and fireworks. Plus, the decision to start things off with a little Frank Ocean? I can’t get to the theater fast enough. — Sy Doan, Columnist
8. Small-town news of the fortnight: Man crashes a motorized bar stool while cruising down a county road. Ingenious jury-rigging or woefully misguided attempt at go-kart modifications? — Jordan Gamble, Editor
