LeBron James just cannot catch a break, can he? First, everyone misinterpreted his “Decision” as a malicious, cowardly one, rather than the pursuit for individual greatness it was. Then, his selfless, team-first play in the NBA Finals earned him the moniker of choker and loser, rather than role model.
And now, after handing his fans one of the greatest statistical seasons in NBA history, seemingly destined to win this year’s NBA title no matter the opponent, his inevitable crowning will forever be tainted by a lack of competition. Instead of congratulating LeBron on finally earning a ring, fans will bemoan an ACL tear and the sorriest excuse for a boxing match in sporting history — note, those were separate events.
In his playoffs opener, Bulls guard Derrick Rose had the audacity, the audacity I say, to tear his ACL in the closing minutes. One of the league’s still-blooming superstars, Rose had led his Bulls to the NBA’s best record and positioned Chicago as legitimate title contenders. But with one skip and a jump, and a miserable landing, Rose dashed those dreams. His torn ACL cleared
the path for LeBron to march to his coronation with much less hindrance. Is it really a title if you don’t need to beat the toughest teams at their toughest?
Apparently New York’s Amare Stoudemire watched Rose’s selfish injury and recognized his chance to throw another hurdle into LeBron’s path toward public praise. After falling in the first two games of the Knicks’ series against LeBron’s Heat, and after yet another putrid Stoudemire output, the bespectacled Stoudemire had the penchant to try and extinguish the fire.
What fire? Now there is an excellent question. Did Stoudemire punch the glass protecting a fire extinguisher because he could not stand the Heat? Did he want to save the Knicks season? Or end it? Was he exasperated with his play, or teammate Carmelo Anthony’s? The odds are, we will never know which, if any, of these led Stoudemire to shatter the glass usually reserved for “in case of fire.” viagra canada pharmacy We will simply have to entertain ourselves with more puns about fire, glass and heat.
We will never know because Stoudemire will not have the pride to admit to the world he simply wanted to tarnish LeBron’s first title. Without Stoudemire, the Knicks and Carmelo stand no chance of overcoming a two-game deficit to LeBron and the Heat. All reports indicate Stoudemire cut up his hand badly enough he could be done for the season, and certainly will be out for at least one game.
It seems obvious Stoudemire put more thought into his plan than Rose did into his. In order to make a laughingstock of LeBron’s kingdom, Rose subjected himself to at least one surgery and a minimum of six months of rehab. Meanwhile, Stoudemire is only looking at some stitches, a few weeks of having difficulty cutting steak and a morsel of public humiliation. All for the greater good, right? Certainly not because he was a frustrated, selfish star who was upset the ball was not flowing through him on offense in this playoff series. No, certainly not that.
Poor LeBron James really cannot catch a break. This was supposed to be his year. The first of not one, not two, not three, not four … Instead, this is just another year where he won’t fulfill his potential. This title will be handed to him, not earned.
Just wait. It is only a matter of time before Kevin Durant suffers two concussions and Kobe Bryant retires, mid-playoffs.
LeBron James really cannot catch a break.
